The sketchy info I could find described such a complex as being built outside of Denver in 1960. It housed 200 people when in operation. Titans were phased out entirely by 1987, but the earliest sites might have been shut down even sooner. The Titan was a liquid fueled missile like the Atlas. Both were phased out as the Minuteman solid rockets were deployed. The liquid rockets were pretty unstable and couldn't really be left all fueled and ready to fire like the solid rockets. Also it took time and a large team of workers to get one fueled up and ready to fire. I'm pretty sure the missile complex shown in the old cold war movie "A Gathering of Eagles" was a Titan complex. The missile they show isn't an Atlas and the layout isn't anything like the Minuteman system. Rick. smith@sctc.com roseville, minnesota
